Why This Plan?

In an effort to make City of Viroqua more multimodal, the city of developing a bicycle and pedestrian plan.

Recent community plans have outlined the desire and need for safer walking and bicycling infrastructure, particularly around schools and high traffic areas. To address this, this project will also provide an addendum to the 2011 Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Plan. 

​

The goal of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan and SRTS Addendum is to a safe and connected active transportation network for residents of all abilities and experience levels. This project will lay the groundwork to expand bicycle and pedestrian connections and facilities. 

What Will it Cover?

The Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan and SRTS Addendum will include goals, objectives, and policies to improve bicycling and walking. The plan will include network recommendations, along with a schedule, cost estimates, and funding sources.

After an initial review of existing conditions, various public engagement opportunities will take place. Feedback from the community will help to formulate the plan’s recommendations. A project Advisory Committee, which will be made up of various stakeholders and community members, will meet four times throughout the project to guide the effort.

The plan will be drafted in the spring of 2024, with City of Viroqua input and adoption scheduled mid-2024
